I decided the Weavers need to do an advent calendar this year. For those maybe like me who do not know what advent means, here's a little excerpt from a devotion I am doing...Advent comes from the latin word adventus meaning arrival or coming. The Hebrews looked forward to the coming of a Messiah - the first advent. Now, we are waiting expectantly for his return - the second advent. The advent reminds us to look forward to His return every day. This season is about resetting Jesus at the center of our lives.
I had never grown up with an advent calendar, so wasn't sure what they were about or what to even do with them. I know some people put candy in theirs or small gifts, but I thought doing things would be best for us. After seeing so many cute ones on pinterest, then realizing I am not that crafty...my neighbor recommended checking out the parent teacher store for library book pockets (you know the old school kind when we signed our name on that card). I found some really cute white ones with red polka dots for like $5.99 for a pack of 30, yes please. Then I found some numbers for a school calendar for $2.99 that would work perfectly, yes please. Now did I just want to tape the pockets straight onto the wall, nah, I thought I'd jazz it up a bit by gluing them to felt and cutting out a christmas tree pattern complete with a bow for the star (felt and bow total about $5).
For this non creative girl, I think it turned out fabulous. For about $14, I give you the Weaver advent calendar....
