To kick start the festivities for the weekend, we headed to my parents house for the annual cookout. Every year, since I can remember, my dad's side of the family get together and eat a traditional 4th of July feast. This year was no exception. There were ribs, chicken, potato salad, hashbrown casserole, deviled eggs, baked beans, corn, and a bunch of other stuff that I didn't eat and can't remember. It was yummy. My Granddaddy and my Dad get up early and put the meat on the pit and let it cook all morning, heck maybe even all night, I don't know the schedule. My Granddaddy puts a secret sauce on the meat to give it the right kick. yum!
This year while there, Dylan was quite entertained as his cousin Devon had a gator to ride. This has been the first year they have actually been around the same age to play as Devon is almost 4 years old. The gator goes really fast and Devon ain't scared! He was wheeling and dealing all over the place as Dylan held on for dear life.
Dylan even took his turn to try and drive it, but he doesn't quite get steering. Even in the slow gear, he was dangerous and sneaky, he almost ran over my Grandaddy sitting from the passenger seat. I know that I am not willing to spend that kind of money, but Dylan sure had fun on it. I mentioned to everyone that I wouldn't buy it, but as soon as my mom came out she would probably buy. She didn't let me down. Of course, when she saw how much fun he was having, she was like, I guess I will be going to Wal-Mart later...let me just clarify, we are still gator free.
On the actual July 4th, we invited our friends, the Williams over, along with a few others who already had plans...(we have a standing invitation for anyone who wants to come over for the fireworks as we have an amazing view from our back porch of all the crazies who spend hundreds and some thousands of dollars, I kid you not). I posted on F@cebook that there was an open invite and some of our friends took us up on it. I use to go all out for it but learned my lesson after having so much leftovers. This year it was just cookies and brownies, but we enjoyed the spectacular show.
Dylan even made out like a bandit, seriously. I think Dylan's cougar girlfriend, Eliza, is being replace by a younger little girl, Ava. Ava wanted me to hold her with Dylan and as soon as she got in my lap, she couldn't keep her lips off Dylan. It was hysterical.
(don't mind my triple chin)
Thanks to all our soldiers who have served to protect our freedom!!
