The Flu Bug

Before Disney, I kept Dylan out of school the days leading up to our trip. I didn't want to risk him catching the flu because it's been running rapid through our community (and I didn't do flu shots this year).

We were able to enjoy Disney, but the minute we got back, the kids came down with it. Dylan was the first victim. He came home from school and kept his coat on the entire time. I said I was going to run next door and I asked him if he wanted to come, he said no.  That was the first clue that something was seriously wrong. I didn't want to take any chances so off we went to the walk in clinic.  While nothing came back positive, they went ahead and prescribed him tamiflu because he looked like it was the flu.  Within the next 48 hours, Dylan was back to normal and doing great. I thought maybe it wasn't the flu, but I was wrong, as Natalie came down with it and she did test positive.

Natalie doesn't like to drink to begin with, but pair it with the flu, she wasn't hardly drinking at all.  Then she started vomiting.  After no wet diapers all day, we went to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital ER to see if we needed to start her on fluids.  We were there for a long time and they did give her medicine to stop the vomiting and after a few hours, she finally started drinking and eating. PTL. I had to bribe her with a bear in the hallway.  If you pushed the button, it sang and danced. I said to her, if you want to see the bear, you have to drink.

I noticed her little veins in her fingers while snuggling her.
on the track to recovering.  digging in the pantry.

It wasn't that serious, but it was still a scary experience. I can't imagine going through anything more intense. I pray that I never have to.
