On another note, we had several trick or treaters tonight, but the one thing I don't get is teenagers not wearing costumes. I would love to say, sorry no costume, no candy. I am scared that they might leave me a little trick. Seriously, at least throw a sheet over you head or make your hair all crazy looking. Give me something for the treat you are about to get.

Happy Halloween
I know I have already posted a pic of Dylan in his spider costume at the Fall Party, but it's his first Halloween so I wanted to share a few more.

Pumpkin Carving
Our friends, The Harris', invited us, and others, over for lunch and some good old fashion pumpkin carving after church. They filled our bellies with corn chowder, chili, pumpkin bundt cake and witches' hats. (how cute are these)

Thank you for inviting us, we truly had a great time. If it weren't for you all, we probably wouldn't have carved pumpkins on our front porch.
After lunch, we started on the pumpkins. The kids got their own pumpkins to paint
While the adults carved pumpkins. I have to admit, it has been a long time since I have carved a pumpkin, so I was a little worried how it would turn out. Seriously, I cannot recall the last time. It must have been when I was a kid, and I really didn't "carve" it since I probably wasn't allowed to "play" with knives.

Damien did the Alabama one and I did the winking face one.

Gentry's Farm
After Pumpkinfest, we headed over to Gentry's Farm. They had lots to do: pick your own pumpkin, hayride, kids game area, corn maze and nature trail. Next year, I want to take Dylan to a different pumpkin patch which has more activities for his age. It's a little further out, but well worth it I hear. We got lots of great pics. I couldn't choose just a few to share.

Pumpkinfest
Today, we attended Pumpkinfest. It's a tradition that we go every year. Next year, we will even get to take Dylan through the free children's area that our church sponsors. They have lots of games and crafts for the kiddies, all free...not to mention the candy they rack up on. Most kids wear their halloween costumes, so Dylan went as an Alabama football player in preparation for the big rivalry game tonight against Tennessee.

MOMS Fall Party
Even though the weather today was nasty, we braved the weather to go to our first MOMS fall party. The party started at 11:30, but Dylan and I got there at 10:30, as we were on the planning committee and had to set up.
Earlier in the week, before Damien went out of town, I had him get down our stroller that we got when we had custody of Tyler. That day, I put Dylan in it to take the dogs for a walk, and he loved it. He held on to the tray the entire time, so he could sit all the way up. Well, my goal was to take it to the party, so I could take pictures. My "job" was to take pictures of the kids, but all the moms brought their own camera...needless to say, I didn't take too many pictures. However, the stroller still came in handy. When it was time to eat, Dylan nursed for a while and drifted off to la-la land. Perfect timing, I love getting to eat when everyone else does, so I laid him down in the stroller and used his costume as a pillow. Mommy got to eat in peace without extra hands trying to grab her food. After lunch, the kids played games and decorated some paper lunch bags to take their candy home. By the end of the party, the rain had stopped. The nasty day became a nice day. Hopefully the weather holds up so that we can go to Pumpkinfest and to Gentry's Farm tomorrow. Please pray for Damien as he's been sick since he got home today and pray that Dylan and I don't get it. I haven't let him come close to Dylan as I do not want us to be sick.

Ridin' Dirty Revealed
I know you have been waiting for this moment all week, right. Okay, probably not, but I promised that I would do a follow up and here it is.
The phrase, "Ridin' Dirty", according to the all mighty wikipedia, is defined as driving a vehicle with drugs or other contraband on the inside. Nothing too complicated, but we must inform ourselves as to the meaning of the slang out on the street. I know when Dylan says or hears something, I want to know what it means and not turn a deaf ear. If that means late nights googling things, so be it.

Autumn at Oaklawn
Our church's annual event, Autumn at Oaklawn, was this past Sunday. A lot of people bring chili and we eat, listen to worship music and fellowship. The girls usually sit around and chat while the guys toss a football or washers. It's an event that I look forward to and will enjoy even more as Dylan gets older as they have a hay ride.

Music Lyrics
I don't really listen to much secular music, so when I actually do, sometimes I am shocked at the lyrics. I really don't like the impression that is being left with the youth. Some songs seem to promote promiscuity, drugs and under age drinking, not to mention violence and murder. I am amazed that the songs fly under the radar of most parents or maybe they just don't care. In college, I worked in an inner city day care, and if I wanted to know the lyrics to any rap song, I would just ask one of my 5 year old students. It seems that our culture is being desensitized to song lyrics...it's okay, I really like the beat of it. I am guilty of this one too, so I am not pointing the finger here, but when is enough enough? What are we saying to our kids if we are listening to Salt n Pepa's Shoop? (Yes I pulled a song from the 90's). One song talks about Ridin' Dirty...this is where a fun little poll comes in to see if we know what it's referring to. Post a comment and tell me what you think it means to ride dirty? No cheating....do not google it. I will do a follow up post in a few days and let you know. I asked Damien what he thought Ridin' Dirty meant and he said driving around with poopy pants....so naive. Go ahead and post.

Why I can't vote for Obama...
I voted yesterday...woo hoo! I love early voting. It's much better to vote early than go out in the masses and wait for hours, especially with an infant. Obviously, you know who I voted for based on past posts. I still feel it's my duty, in some way, to educate others.
My apologies if this offends anyone, but I felt that as a Christian, I had to voice my concerns with electing Obama. There are some things as Christians, that we should take a stand on. What are those things for you? I totally agreed with the author below, Huntley Brown, who is a Christian Concert Pianist, so I wanted to spread his message. (This was checked on truthorfiction.com and is true.)
Why I Can't Vote For Obama
By Huntley Brown
Dear Friends,
A few months ago I was asked for my perspective on Obama, I sent out an e-mail with a few points. With the election just around the corner I decided to complete my perspective. Those of you on my e-list have seen some of this before but its worth repeating..
First I must say who ever wins the election will have my prayer support. Obama needs to be commended for his accomplishments but I need to explain why I will not be voting for him.
Many of my friends process their identity through their blackness.
I process my identity through Christ. Being a Christian (a Christ follower) means he leads I follow. I can't dictate the terms he does because he is the leader.
I can't vote black because I am black I have to vote Christian because that's who I am. Christian first black second. Neither should anyone from the other ethnic groups vote because of ethnicity. 200 years from now I wont be asked if I was black or white. I will be asked if I know Jesus and accepted him as Lord and savior.
In an election there are many issues to consider but when a society gets abortion, same-sex marriage, embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning to name a few wrong economic concerns will soon not matter.
We need to follow Martin Luther King's words don't judge someone by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I don't know Obama so all I can go off is his voting record.
His voting record earned him the title of the most liberal senator in the US Senate in 2007.
NATIONAL JOURNAL: Obama: Most Liberal Senator in 2007 (01/31/2008)
To beat Ted Kennedy and Hilary Clinton as the most liberal senator, takes some doing.
Obama accomplished this feat in 2 short years. I wonder what would happen to America if he had four years to work with.
There is a reason planned parenthood gives him a 100 % ratings.
There is a reason the homosexual community supports him.
There is a reason Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro, Hamas etc loves him.
There is a reason he said he would nominate liberal judges to the supreme court.
There is a reason he voted against the infanticide bill.
There is a reason he voted No on the constitutional ban of same-sex marriage.
There is a reason he voted no on partial birth abortion.
There is a reason he voted no on confirming Justices Roberts and Alito. These two judges are conservatives and they have since overturned partial birth abortion. The same practice Obama wanted to continue.
Lets take a look at the practice he wanted to continue.
The 5 Step Partial Birth Abortion procedure
A. Guided by ultrasound, the abortionist grabs the baby's leg with forceps.
(Remember this is a live baby)
B. The baby's leg is pulled out into the birth canal.
C. The abortionist delivers the baby's entire body, except for the head.
D. The abortionist jams scissors into the baby's skull. The scissors are then opened to enlarge the hole.
E. The scissors are removed and a suction catheter is inserted. The child's brains are sucked out, causing the skull to collapse. The dead baby is then removed.
God help him.
There is a reason Obama opposed the parent notification law.
Think about this you can't give a kid an aspirin without parental notification but that same kid can have an abortion without parental notification. This is insane.
There is a reason he went to Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years.
Obama tells us he has good judgement but he sat under Jeremiah Wright teaching for 20 years. Now he is condemning Wrights sermons. I wonder why now?
Obama said Jeremiah Wright led him to the Lord and discipled him. A disciple is one in training. Jesus told us in Matthew 28 v 19 - 20 Go and make disciples of all nations. This means reproduce yourself. Teach people to think like you, walk like you, talk like you believe what you believe etc. The question I have is what did Jeremiah Wright teach him?
Would you support a White President who went to a church which has tenants that said they have a
1. Commitment to the White Community
2. Commitment to the White Family
3. Adherence to the White Work Ethic
4. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the White Community .
5. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting White Institutions
6. Pledge allegiance to all White leadership who espouse and embrace the White Value System
7. Personal commitment to embracement of the White Value System.”
Would you support a President who went to a church like that?
Just change the word from white to black and you have the tennants of Obamas former church. If President Bush was a member of a church like this, he would be called a racist. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would have been marching outside.
This kind of church is a racist church. Obama did not wake up after 20 years and just discovered he went to a racist church. The church can't be about race. Jesus did not come for any particular race. He came for the whole world.
A church can't have a value system based on race. The churches value system has to be based on biblical mandate. It does not matter if its a white church or a black church its still wrong. Anyone from either race that attends a church like this would never get my vote.
Obama's former Pastor Jeremiah Wright is a disciple of liberal theologian James Cone, author of the 1970 book A Black Theology of Liberation. Cone once wrote: “Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him.
Cone is the man Obama's mentor looks up to. Does Obama believe this?
So what does all this mean for the nation?
In the past when the Lord brought someone with the beliefs of Obama to lead a nation it meant one thing judgement.
Read 1 Samuel 8. When Israel asked for a king.
First God says 1 Samuel 8 v 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do."
Then God says
1 Samuel 8 v 18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king
you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day."
19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. "No!" they said. "We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles."
21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD. 22 The LORD answered, "Listen to them and give them a king."
Here is what we know for sure
God is not schizophrenic
He would not tell one person to vote for Obama and one to vote for McCain. As the scripture says a city divided against itself cannot stand, so obviously many people are not hearing from God.
Maybe I am the one not hearing but I know God does not change and Obama contradicts many things I read in scripture so I doubt it.
For all my friends who are voting for Obama can you really look God in the face and say Father based on your word, I am voting for Obama even though I know he will continue the genocidal practice of partial birth abortion.
He might have to nominate three or four supreme court justices, and I am sure he will be nominating liberal judges who will be making laws that are against you.
I also know he will continue to push for homosexual rights, even though you destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for this.I know I can look the other way because of the economy.
I could not see Jesus agreeing with many of Obama's positions. Finally I have two questions for all my liberal friends.
Since we know someone's value system has to be placed on the nation,
1 Whose value system should be placed on the nation.
2 Who should determine that this is the right value system for the nation?
Blessings,
Huntley Brown

Overheard
Monday, Damien was talking on the phone with a new friend. They were swapping banter as he's an Auburn fan (enough said, huh). Then the conversation turned to the weekend plans. This is what I overheard....Saturday, Stephanie's going to an all day conference, so I will be babysitting. I piped in, babysitting? You don't babysit your own child. He's said, what else do you call it? I said you call it taking care of your own child. I then proceeded to look up the definition of baby sit.
baby sit - To take care of a child or children in the absence of a parent or guardian.
Hope he doesn't think he's getting paid for this gig.

Sitting Big
My Mom has a disease. I am sure other Grandmother's have this disease as well...it's called I have to buy my baby something every time I go out disease. Do you know that one? Well the latest thing my mom purchased for Dylan was his very own adirondack chair to match the adult ones that we have on our front porch.
Heather's Shower
On Saturday, Dylan and I went to a baby shower for Heather. Heather and I have known each other for a long time, but I would say that we didn't really become good friends until high school for whatever reason. (She worked at Sonic for a little while.) This will be her second daughter. Her daughter, Mia, is 3 years old (I think) and is looking forward to having a baby sister. When I had Dylan Heather and Mia came to visit in the hopes that Mia would embrace the idea of having a brother as she only wanted a sister. Well, she got her wish. Micah, her sister, will be here any day now and the Hayes family couldn't be any happier.
Not only did Dylan and I get to spend time with Heather, but we got to see some other friends that we didn't see as often as we would like. Misty and Michelle were both friends from school as well. Misty and I have been friends since middle school, when we cheered together, and Michelle and I were friends on and off, since elementary school. (Not for any other reason than the crowds we hung out with).
Misty and I were pregnant around the same time, but she delivered a few months before me. Maggie was born on Jan 21st (hopefully that's right). Dylan and Maggie have only met once or twice before, but during this meeting, they got to play and touch each other.

A Day Late

No, I didn't forget my Mom's birthday, but I did forget to do a blog about it. My Mom's birthday was yesterday, October 12th. For her birthday, Damien, Dylan and I took her and my Dad out to dinner on Saturday night to Buca Di Beppo. My parents are creatures of habit when it comes to eating out (even when they are on vacation). They like their Logan's, Chili's, Olive Garden, etc, so since they hadn't eaten at Buca, that's where we took them...trying to expand their palette. We got her a beauty package: a new hair dryer and a gift card to get her nails and tootsies done.

Flashback Friday - Sonic Stephanies

Sonic...ahhh...where I spent most of my time as a teenager. (For my mid western and northern friends, Sonic is a fast food restaurant that has curbside service.) I started working there when I was 15 and continued to work there throughout my high school years and even worked there some during my college summer breaks. I made great money there, for a teenager, so it was hard to walk away. On a good weekend day or night, I could make $100 in tips. Typically, I carhopped, meaning I took the orders out to the cars. I know what you are thinking...you're suppose to tips those girls. No, you don't have to, but it is sure nice when you do. I feel sorry for the girls these daya as most people pay with their credit card and there's not a spot for a tip and no one carries cash...poor girls.
I have some great memories from Sonic and became friends with lots of people that I probably would have never gotten to know otherwise. For instance, in the picture, is Stephanie. (Yes her name is Stephanie Ann just like me) She was 2 years younger than me in school, so we would have never been in the same class to get to know each. However, through the world of Sonic, we became best friends. She moved to Ohio at the end of my senior year. Her family moved up at the end of the school year, but Stephanie moved in with us for the summer. We both quit Sonic the same day. I was going to college, and she was moving to Ohio. Before she moved, we racked up some funny times especially with our manager, Kevin, who was quite the prankster himself. Some of our pranks on each other: Kevin vs the Stephanies and on other employees include:
- having new employees mop the freezer floor (the wet mop would stick to it)
- asking employees to go on the roof to pick bananas off the tree (our owner was so tight we'd joke that he grew a lot of his own produce)
- Kevin firing me in front of everyone for using too much toilet paper.
- Me faking a seizure by gurgling whip cream and water in my mouth then falling to the floor and letting it spill out of my mouth. Stephanie was yelling for people to get my purse and my medication. (The prank was on Kevin, he was freaking out) This was the best one! (not too funny for those who actually have seizures, I am sorry)
- Kevin laying on the floor with a knife squeezed between his arm pit and ketchup on the floor as all the employees came back from the street after watching the Christmas parade.
That's just a few of them. I am sure there are a lot more. Hopefully some of my old co-workers will read this and add a few more in the comments section of this post.
There were also perks to working at Sonic.
- Half priced food - not to mention a lot of added free extras if you could cook your own food, which I could. I would ring up my food then go back and cook it...add some bacon, some cheese, more fries, etc.
- Free drinks and shakes if you would scoop off any extra from other shakes you made. Meaning some one orders a shake and with the collar on the cup you could make a lot more. After mixing it, you just slide the extra over in another cup. Ta Dah!
- On hot days, you could go stand in the walk in freezer to cool off. Don't you wish you had one of those at your house. You're outside mowing the grass and then walk in to 32 degrees..ahhh! That's were this pic was taken, in the freezer. Stephanie and I were eating from the tub of crushed heath bar that's used in Sonic blasts. (I am pretty sure this was a health code violation)
I still think of my times at Sonic, and I smile. Some of my greatest friendships were made there...Stephanie, Andrea, Brandy, Heather, Wendy and Angela just to name a few. Angela was taken home almost 10 years ago and it's been weird not seeing her around. I treasure the time we spent together growing up and working together at Sonic. As I do, with all of the guys and girls I got to know there. Thanks for the memories!
P.S. Stephanie just moved back to town recently. Yea! We lost touch for a while, but I am hoping to pick up where we left off.

How to Be a Bama Fan
Damien received his fraternity's chapter's newsletter this week, and in it, it had this article. He read them all to me. (Hang with me, there's a funny at the end.)
1 - Bama fans know and sing the fight song whenever it's played.
2 - Bama fans arrive at the game no later than 30 minutes prior to kickoff and promptly prepare for the "Roll Tide Roll" insertion into the chorus of "Sweet Home Alabama"
3- Kickoffs require that everyone in the stadium stand. Bama fans yell "rooll" until the kicker kicks the ball, "tide" at the time of the kick, followed by a quick "roll." At that time, it is okay to sit down for the moment.
4 - Bama fans proudly support the standing and cheering of the team during heated action. Never ask a fan to sit down during play -- you should stand up, as well.
5 - Bama fans understand a great deal of thought goes into hiring of head coaches. The University would never terminate a coach during the season. Therefore, we support our staff to the fullest during the season and never suggest one's removal at any level.
6 - Bama fans never sell a ticket to an opposing team's fan - not under any circumstance.
7 - Bama fans always attend games. If you can't make the game, make sure another Bama fan has the opportunity.
8a - Bama fans, aware the visiting team is in total awe of the Quad and surrounding tailgaiting experience, always offer a cordial greeting, something to eat and drink, and make them feel at home in preparation for the whipping they are about to get!
8b - Bama fans have great respect for all opponents and applaud visiting teams, injured players, visiting fans and visiting coaches. One exception see 8c.
8c - While Bama fans show class before, during and after the games, booing should be restricted to flagrant fouls by opposing players and moronic calls by officials. Our team and coaches should never be booed under any circumstances. However, it is acceptable to boo University of Tennessee and Auburn players as they run onto the field. It is a flagrant foul for them to even step foot on Bryant - Denny Stadium (BDS) turn. Side note from me - I know there are some UT fans secretly reading my blog...maybe this will cause you to post.
9 - Bama fans know every Bama chant and cheer and therefore there is no need for "the wave" while at BDS or on the road. Should an effort to start the wave occur, the fans should immediately break into "Yea Alabama"
10- Bama fans know and respect the school colors. Only crimson and white wear is acceptable. By the same token, orange in any form or fashion is unacceptable!
11 - It is the responsibility of fans to pass down Bama's rich history to the future generations. Annual visits by fans, children and grandchildren to the Theta Chi house, BDS, the Bryant Museum and Denny Chimes are the very least that is required to educate those to follow.
12 - Early development of a Bama child includes training to instantly recognize Big Al and yell "go Bama" and "Roll Tide"
13 - Bama fans never leave a game until it's over. We must be there for Rammer Jammer out of respect for the University and its teams!
Around number 11 or 12, Damien's demeanor changed. At the end, I asked were you about to cry? He said, yes. I burst out into laughter for a good minute. He said, I was thinking about Dylan growing up and going to the games. He's such a sap....for Alabama football and Dylan. After I caught me breath from laughing so hard, I said, this is so going on the blog. He said as long as you put these on there, I don't care. I love it that he got choked up about it. It was so sweet.

Surrendering the Secret
Kelley blogged about a give away that she came across on the blog, Traveling the Road Home. The give away is a bible study, Surrending the Secret, which includes a DVD Leader Kit (including DVD study, leader guide and one member book) and twelve 12 Member Books. This study is written by Pat Layton who is the founder and President of A Woman's Place Ministries, Inc which is located in Tampa, Florida. A Woman's Place began in 1986 as a post-abortion healing ministry called "Sisters of Rachel." Later, it became a more involved ministry to serve those who were experiencing unplanned pregnancy, those who had a past abortion and even served as an abstinence education program. What an amazing ministry! There are many women out there who could benefit from a ministry like this, but are too afraid to release their secret. Think how this bible study could help so many women. Thank you Melinda for sharing the story and the study with us.

Birthday Poem
Damien worked with my Mom on getting pictures of me for the photo collage. He then wrote a sweet poem and surprised me at the Vineyard.

These are the images of your life.
A child of God, mother, friend and loving wife.
You have grown and changed as all can see,
A little surprise to you from me.
When our Lord made you, He broke the mold,
and all now know, you are 30 years old!
Not as old as me, you'll want to shout.
It crossed your mind, without a doubt!
Your birthday has come, your friends are here!
We party for you, let that be clear!
I love you much and so do they.
Together we come, to celebrate your day.
The wine is chilled, there's plenty of food.
Let's have some fun and enjoy the mood.
May God bless this party with plenty of cheer.
May he be with you in your 31st year!

Saturday Celebration
Arrington Vineyards was the setting for my 30th birthday celebration. The weather was perfect, as fall was in the air. The food and wine was flavorful. The time spent with friends was priceless. (I am not a big on wine, but I actually found a wine that I liked, Gewurztraminer.)
Damien surprised me with a sweet poem and a photo collage (for all to see), which I will share in a post tomorrow.

Getting His Tan On
If you have dogs, you may know this, but dogs love to lay in the sun. Sophie searches for places in the house where the sun is and she lays there for hours. Turbo loves to bask in the sun as well. Turbo can tolerate it longer than Sophie. I think because Sophie is black and attracts the sun more so that Turbo. However, I am not sure if Turbo likes the sun or snow better. Remember their snow pictures?

My 30th and my booty
Most of you know, that yesterday, I turned 30. I have to say, it wasn't bad. I don't really feel any older, but now, when someone asks me how old I am, I have to say 30. That's the scary part, I am no longer able to say 29. I spent the day, kind of like my birthday last year, grocery shopping, but with a different ending. Instead of going to bible study like last year, my parents and a family friend came to my house and took me to dinner. We went to what my husband calls the Adcock (my maiden name) family restaurant, Logan's (as we frequent the establishment a lot). At the end of the meal, everyone, except my Dad, ordered a brownie dessert. He ordered one of those mini desserts. The brownies were huge!! We could've shared 2 of them instead of getting our own. I brought home my leftover brownie and told Damien about it today. I told him it was in the refrigerator if he wanted some. I came home anticipating brownie, and he ate it all!!! It's okay, I have more chocolate coming my way tomorrow night at my birthday outing.
I bet you are wondering, what's the booty in your title referencing? I am not referring to my tush, but the gifts that I received. Damien got me a kitchen mixer, mini muffin pan, some bowl caddies, pampered chef cookie scoops, mini spatulas and flowers. My friend, former co-worker, Karen, sent me flowers as well. My parents got me a blazer, 2 shirts and get this...a taser. I was a little scared about receiving a taser, but it makes sense. You never know when you may not feel so safe and need something extra to protect yourself. (I know what you are thinking, I am going to leave a comment and say, don't tase me bro!) All this to say, don't mess with me, I am armed and dangerous :)
